Food and Nutrition

The meals and snacks at Busy Angels Day Nursery are carefully designed to give your child well-balanced meals that will provide the nutrients they require for healthy growth and mental development, giving them the best possible start in life.

Our Nursery’s menu offers a wide variety of different flavours, textures and cuisines to help children develop a healthy and varied approach to food. We serve breakfast, lunch and tea daily, with fresh, healthy snacks twice a day to keep our children nourished and energised. All our meals are cooked daily on the site by the full qualified cook.

We cater according to the children’s needs that includes dietary requirements due to religious basis (Halal, no beef), allergies (nut allergy, Dairy-free and Gluten free) and parental preference (Vegan or Vegetarian). We provide alternative food to those children such as soya milk or almond milk instead of fresh milk and use vegan products such as Quorn chicken or mince instead of animal meat. We provide the texture of the food according to the babies’ age and development such as soft, puree, semi-puree and small in size.

Children are encouraged to try new foods and eat the meals provided as they watch their peers doing the same – many parents are surprised by just how explorative their little ones can be!

We promote meal times as an opportunity for learning as well as a time for calm social interaction, and encourage good eating habits that will hopefully set the pattern for a child’s future relationship with food. We encourage toddlers and pre-school children to start becoming more independent by serving themselves.

In addition to lunch, the nursery also provides breakfast and a varied tea. Breakfast is available between 8am and 9am. This consists of a choice of cereal and/or toast with milk or water. Throughout the day children are offered pasteurised milk and water to drink. They are also given a slice of fruit, crunchy vegetables, pitta bread, carrot bread sticks with humus for a mid-morning snack at 10:15 am. Our lunch is at 11:30 am.

The tea served at 3:10pm and some examples of tea at the nursery include; Fishcake with salad, crackers with cheese and cucumber, a variety selection of sandwiches, beans on toast, soup with a roll/bread, crumpets with cheese and tomatoes, spaghetti on toast, pizza/garlic bread with salad, scones with carrot sticks and much more.

We have a four-week rotational menu that contains good balance of nutrients, their meals and snacks and it is based on a range of foods from these four food groups:

  1. Starchy foods
  2. Fruit and vegetables
  3. Meat, fish, eggs, beans
